About the Farm
Sleepy G Farm is a successful mixed organic vegetable and livestock farm in Pass Lake, Ontario. The farm is located 40 minutes east of Thunder Bay in the Robinson-Superior Treaty area on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe and Metis peoples, and just a few kilometres from Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and Lake Superior.

Owners and founders Marcelle and Brendan have been growing vegetables and raising livestock in Pass Lake since 2006 and are heading into their 16th season growing for a summer, fall and winter CSA program that services over 300 families. Farm products are also marketed through an on-farm store and local retailers in the city of Thunder Bay.

About You
You are reliable and always try your best. You are physically and mentally fit and can work in all weather conditions. You can lift up to 40 lbs, have stamina, dexterity and an eye for detail. You can follow both written and verbal instruction and are always looking to hone your skills and abilities. You work equally well in a team environment or independently. Prior experience working for a small business, in farming, landscaping, food service, retail, construction, or operating machinery could be an asset for the position.

The Details
Organic Farm Worker: Permanent Full-time or Permanent Part-time
Hours: 16 to 40 (you decide) hours per week 8 am to 5 pm
Start: Anytime (onboarding ongoing)
Starting Wage: $20+ per hour + 4% vacation pay

The Work
The Organic Farm Worker will assist in the production, processing, and distribution of organic vegetables and participate in the day to day seasonal activities on the organic vegetable farm.

SLEEPY G FARM IS A COMMUNITY
CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture”. CSA members purchase a subscription to the farm’s harvest prior to the growing season. In exchange for the membership fee, CSA members will receive a portion of the farm's harvest throughout the growing season. CSA programs are a wonderful way for people to strengthen their relationship with food through an increased awareness of the cycles of nature and the gift of harvest. By being a member of our CSA you will enjoy fresh, ripe, seasonal produce grown right here in Northwestern Ontario!

There are a number of other benefits to the CSA member which include supporting your local economy, minimizing the carbon footprint related to feeding your family, becoming connected with farming, and trust in the quality and safety of the food you eat. We, the farmers are directly accountable to you, our members.

Benefits to the farmers include a guaranteed sale of much of the farm’s produce, money at the beginning of the season when it is needed most, and pride in contributing to our community in a real and meaningful way. Additionally, we get the opportunity to get to know our Members on a personal level which is often very rewarding as many of our customers are passionate about the same things as us. CSA is not only about high quality food – it’s also about community building.

We now offer a sliding-scale fee schedule for our CSA programs!
This allows members to select the membership that works for them financially without eligibility criteria or fear of judgment. You CSA membership supports not only a local organic farm but other community members.
